While looking at homes, I saw a house that had this humongous bathroom in the master suite.

Minnesota House Bathroom

The master suite had a door that you entered through to get to the bathroom.  The bathroom is as large as a small bedroom and had a huge tub.  The window is plexiglass so that you can’t hear any noise from the bedroom.

The last time I saw this style bathroom was at a hotel in Long Beach, Washington called the Inn at Discovery Coast.  Which is a very nice place to stay, right on the beach, if you’re in that area.
The closet (which I don’t have a picture of) was even larger than the bathroom and could easily be converted into a combined closet and nursery.

Minnesota Snow

Woodbury, Minnesota

I am standing in a parking lot looking up at the trees.

The snow bank is really high as we’ve had many days of snow.

This January we have had snow every day except the 12th.  Not a lot of snow — just a little at a time.

The sun is trying to peek through the clouds and the bare trees.
The clustered evergreen trees look like they are standing aloof from the bare ones.
I find beauty in the bare trees, the white snow and the cold.
In the seasons of our hearts, we sometimes go through periods of barrenness and the heart turns cold and loses it’s feelings of warmth.  Then the purity of Christ comes to us to give us warmth and to make our cold stony hearts into hearts of flesh.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Psalm 73:26
We are no longer bare because the Son of God has infused us with His goodness and love.  His character.  And then we see the beauty and the transformation that has taken place.
We cannot negate the journey through the barrenness.  It has a beauty all it’s own and we are never left without the presence and purity of God.
We just have to open our eyes to view His beauty.
I will give them an undivided heart and put a new Spirit in them;  I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.    Ezekiel 11:19

The House Hunt

The search for a house continues.

We received a counteroffer on the house we made an offer on in Hudson, Wisconsin.  Unfortunately, the woman only came down $5K and took the washer/dryer along with the water softener out of the mix. She even wants to dig up the dog fence and take that with her too.

The home is way over-priced and the comps in the area do not support her high sales price.  We were told that she can’t go any lower on the sales prices because she’s building a townhouse and needs the money to close on that.

We ignored her counteroffer and wish her well.

We hope to make an offer on our 2nd choice this Sunday.

Still waiting to hear on whether the offer we made on a house has been accepted.

I continue to believe we made the right decision in making a lower-than-asked-for offer.  Although the home is beautiful and has lots of updates, the comparable homes in the area are larger and one even took 2 years to sell because the seller priced it too high.  Just yesterday, a larger home came on the market just down the block from the one  we made an offer on — larger, with a pool and $120K less.  Ouch!

The seller can’t be happy, but God has affirmed our decision in the offer we made.  An answer to my prayer since I asked Him to guide us.

Thank you for the guidance Father!

Minnesota and Wisconsin House Hunting

Last evening, we made our first offer on a house in Wisconsin.  It’s a tough choice to decide whether to live in Wisconsin or Minnesota but the home values are really good in Wisconsin right now although the taxes are a wee bit higher.

It felt strange to make this offer.  The house is gorgeous and the location is nice.  But the home values in this neighborhood are down as they are everywhere.  The seller has set their price really high.  And we made our offer based on sales in the neighborhood.

I vacillate between having done the “right” thing (a lower offer) based on facts and feeling like I’m insulting a seller (who unfortunately priced their house too high).

We’ll know soon if the offer is accepted.  Meanwhile, I hope the unsettling feeling of insulting someone goes away.

Birds and Fish Still Dying

The phenomena of thousands of fish and birds dying continues as Sweden, Italy and New Zealand join the U.S. in the abnormality.

So far, we hear of scientists calling it normal but the reasons for the deaths sound absurd.

It Italy, the scientists say the birds died of overeating and indigestion.  So sorry Italy.  I can’t buy that either.

If it’s true that this is normal, I would like some of these scientists to point us to other dates throughout history where both the air and water have produced massive deaths caused by noise and indigestion (eating too many sunflower seeds), has occurred.

I will not hypothesize.  I do find it alarming and it makes me stop to ponder why our wildlife is dying in mass.  If these deaths were chickens that we eat every day, many would stop eating the chickens until a cause was found.

I pray that scientists will continue searching for the cause of these deaths.

As we continue our hunt for a house, we find many interesting things in the homes we view.

There are, or used to be, a lot of Scandinavians who lived here.  Many of the older homes have saunas.  This one had a sauna and right outside it this huge and very deep tub for soaking.

Many homes have fireplaces.  We couldn’t figure out if this was wood or gas burning.  Some of them are very complicated.

My favorite “find” of the day.  A red drop-in shower stall.  It really took me back when I entered the master bedroom bathroom of the house and saw this..

Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico

I’m liking the snow in Minnesota.  I received so many warm clothes for Christmas that has made it easy for my body to acclimate to the cold.

The real estate agent we’re working with, Bridget Crepeau from Edina Realty, told us that people in Minnesota tend to get away in January and February as those are the coldest months.
A trip to Puerto Rico right about now sounds pretty good, especially with the arctic cold that we’re in for this weekend.
